The research will focus on the textile collection in the Highland Folk Museum and its context in the 18th century, looking at themes of identity, economy and innovation in Badenoch.
In preparation for the PhD I've been conducting my own research, spending time researching in Edinburgh and the Outer Hebrides, and while only scratching the surface, I'm already uncovering some fascinating information and it looks like it will be a rich and rewarding project.
Alongside the PhD, I am curating a flax growing project at the Highland Folk Museum- An Goirtean -The wee field of flax aiming to grow flax for linen, and process it as closely as possible to methods used in the 18th century.
I'll be taking part in the Heritage in Action days at the Highland Folk Museum on 12th and 26th July. Come and say hello!
